Xavier Pavie

Xavier Pavie is a french philosopher, Professor at ESSEC Business School, director of the iMagination center, director of the Responsible Innovation Management program for executive education, program director at the Collège International de Philosophie (CIPh), associate researcher at the Institute of Philosophical Research (IREPH) University of Paris Nanterre and responsible for the Philosophy for Responsible Innovation sector with the Catholic Institute of Paris (ICP). Graduated with a master’s degree in management and a master’s degree in philosophy, he is a Doctor of Philosophy with a Habilitation in the Direction of Research, also a graduate of the International Teachers Program (HEC Paris) and the Global Colloquium (Harvard Business School) .

After spending nearly fifteen years in various organizations (Nestlé, Unilever, Club Méditerranée) in charge of marketing and innovation, he joined ESSEC Business School in 2008 to head the Institute of Business Strategy. In 2012 he created the iMagination center whose work is dedicated to imagination, innovation and transdisciplinarity for the emergence of responsible innovation. Through the iMagination week (for Bachelor, Master and executive students) this center helps managers of today and tomorrow to understand the changing world while making them actors in the world to be built. In 2015, iMagination Week received the Teaching Excellence Award. In 2017 the iMagination Week is recognized as one of the most innovative educational experiences by the AASCB and during the Reimagine Education Awards – The Wharton – QS Stars. In 2021, iMagination Week won the Responsible Campus Trophies, Pedagogy for a Sustainable Society.

Since 2008, his research has focused on the notion of innovation and responsible innovator in the light of philosophy and spiritual exercises and in 2011 he is in charge of defining responsible innovation with the support of a network of international universities within a project supported by the European Commission. In 2014 he was appointed Chairman of the “Innovation-regulation-governance” evaluation commission of the ANR (National Research Agency) within the framework of “Horizon 2020”.

From 2016 to 2022 Xavier Pavie was Academic Director of the Grande Ecole program in Singapore. His years spent in Asia allowed him to accentuate his research on responsible innovation with a view beyond the European framework. This has resulted in the development of several cases around responsible innovation with NGOs in the Philippines (Gawad Kalinga), Cambodia (Pour un Sourire d’Enfant and Passerelles Numériques), Malaysia (Dignity) and in India (Auroville).

In 2022, he was appointed Program Director at the International College of Philosophy with the research theme: Critical philosophy of innovation: philosophical, societal and economic issues.

Xavier Pavie has published around twenty books and articles in management and philosophy, both academic and intended for a wider audience. Author of a thesis on the reception of spiritual exercises in contemporary philosophy, he continues to publish regularly on this theme. His book, “Innovation put to the test of philosophy” (PUF 2018) was voted best management book 2019 by the FNEGE. Latest books published: “Critical philosophy of innovation and the innovator” (ISTE – Wiley 2020) and “Philosophical spiritual exercises” (PUF 2022).

Visiting professor at the University of Kaunas (Lithuania) in 2015 and 2016, he regularly teaches at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), at the Hautes Etudes de Gestion de Genève (Switzerland) and at La Trobe University (Australia). He teaches “Ancient Wisdoms” at the Catholic Institute of Paris.
